Graduate Work Stream
- nominate an occupation that is included on the Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL)
- have applied to have your skills assessed by the appropriate Australian skills assessing authority as suitable for your nominated occupation
NOTE: Your skills must be assessed as relevant to your nominated occupation in order for your visa application to be successful.
in the last 6 months have completed one or more qualifications that are closely related to your nominated occupation, following at least 2 years of study in Australia
Post Study Stream
The Temporary Graduate visa allows international students who have completed their studies in Australia to live and work in Australia on a temporary basis. The minimum requirements for the Post-Study Work stream of this visa are set out below:
For international students who graduate with an eligible qualification.
You must have applied for (and been granted) your FIRST Australian Student visa on or after 5 November 2011
- Bachelor’s degree (with or without honours)
- Master’s degree (by coursework or research)
- Master’s extended degree
- Doctorate
General Skilled Migration Visa (Subclass 189,190,491)
This visa allows the skilled people to gain Permanent Residency in Australia. The department has specified some of the skilled occupations which are in high demand in Australian. This list is changed every now and then to meet the Australian Skills Shortage. To be able to apply for this visa, the applicant needs to have relevant qualification, work experience or both. This is a Point based visa category and the points are awarded based on the applicant’s Age, Education, English Level, Work and so on.
The first step for this visa is to lodge an Expression of Interest (EOI) in Skillselect. Based on the information provided, the department will invite the applicant to lodge the visa.

- Skilled Independent (Subclass 189): This is a Permanent visa where points are awarded on bases of the Applicant only and/or Applicant’s partner.
- Skilled Nominated (Subclass 190): This is a Permanent visa where the applicant is nominated by one of the Australian State or territory. State/territory awards 5 points.
- Skilled Work Regional (Subclass 491): This is a Temporary Visa where the applicant can be either nominated by the State or eligible family member who is Permanent resident or Citizen of Australia. This sponsorship awards 15 points. There is a pathway to permanent Residency after this visa
- Skilled Regional (Subclass 191): This is a permanent visa and after satisfying the residency and work requirements of the Skilled Regional (Provisional) subclass 491, you can lodge Skilled Regional Subclass 191 (OPEN TO NEW APPLICANTS FROM NOVEMBER 2022)
